ROAD-MAP FOR COMPLETION OF INDIA-MIDDLE EAST-EUROPE ECONOMIC CORRIDOR (IMEC)

Will the Minister of EXTERNAL AFFAIRS be pleased to state :-
(a) whether Government had made any communications with the countries of UAE, Saudi Arabia and Israel in sketching a roadmap for the completion of IMEC, if so, the details thereof;
(b) whether Government had decided the source of funding for the development of Port of Haifa in Israel to meet India’s needs, if so, the details thereof;
(c) India’s stance on the inclusion of Turkey in the IMEC via Iraq; and
(d) whether Government has any plans for the inclusion of other countries in the proposed IMEC, if so, the details thereof?

(a to d) On the sidelines of the G20 Leaders’ Summit, Leaders of India, European Union, France, Germany, Italy, Saudi Arabia, UAE and the US announced an MoU committing to work together to develop a new India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC). The IMEC will comprise of two separate corridors, the east corridor connecting India to the Gulf and the northern corridor connecting the Gulf to Europe. The IMEC corridor, which aims at integration of Asia, Europe and the Middle East involves multiple stakeholders and is at an incipient stage.
