DATA BANK OF INDIAN STUDENTS STUDYING ABROAD

Will the Minister of EXTERNAL AFFAIRS be pleased to state:

(a) the country-wise number of Indian students currently studying in foreign countries, including Australia;

(b) whether Government is considering preparing a data bank of all the students who go abroad for studies;

(c) if so, the details thereof and the time by when such data bank is likely to be prepared;

(d) whether Government is also considering issuing some guidelines for the students who want to go abroad for studies; and

(e) the time by which such guidelines are likely to be issued by Government?

ANSWER

(a) The country-wise number of Indian students currently studying in foreign countries, including Australia, as per data available with the Government is given at Annexure –I. Urdu.pdf

(b) & (c) The Bureau of Immigration (BOI), Government of India has data of all the students who go abroad for studies on student visas.

(d) & (e) The Government is developing and designing a Global Indian Students Portal (GISP) for Indian students who want to go abroad for studies. The Portal will have information regarding courses, foreign universities, nodal officers, accreditation requirements, etc. which will guide the prospective students to make informed decisions. The Portal is expected to be launched in 2022. Separately, the India Centre for Migration, a think tank of the Ministry, has prepared a "Student Handbook for Studying Abroad”, to provide basic information to our students intending to study overseas.
