COMMON CURRENCY IN SAARC COUNTRIES

*41. SHRI ANIL DESAI:

Will the Minister of External Affairs be pleased to state :

(a) whether in lines of Euro currency in European countries, a proposal for common currency in SAARC countries had been introduced by India;

(b) if so, by whom it was proposed and whether any discussions have ever taken place on the proposal;

(c) the outcome of the deliberations and the stand of member countries; and

(d) whether Indian Rupee can be considered for the same?

(a) No, India has not introduced any proposal for common currency in the SAARC countries.
