EXPORT OF VACCINE FOR DEPENDENT NATIONS

407. SHRI BINOY VISWAM:

Will the minister of External Affairs be pleased to state;

(a) the total number of vaccines exported by India to foreign countries, the details thereof country-wise;

(b) when did Government stop exporting vaccine, the details of Government’s vaccination policy that allowed for the mass export of vaccines and whether there was a limit on exports of vaccines decided under this policy;

(c) the number of nations which has made requests to India for supply of vaccines post India’s decision to stop vaccine export;

(d) government’s position on export of vaccine for nation dependent on India for vaccines; and

(e) given India’s centrality to global vaccine production, step government has taken to ensure Vaccine Equity?

(a) Country –wise details for external supplies of COVID-19 vaccines till 12 July 2021 are placed at annexure-I Urdu.pdf

(b) to (e) India started external supplies of Made in India COVID-19 vaccines under Vaccine Maitri initiative on January 20, 2021 in the form of grants- in aid and commercial sales by Indian manufactures and through GAVI’s COVAX facility. External supplies were undertaken factoring in domestic production, requirement of national vaccination programme and requests for the Made in India vaccines from abroad. The current focus of the Government is on domestic vaccination programme.
