QUESTION NO.406 COVID-19 AID AND VACCINES FROM FOREIGN NATIONS

406. SHRI BINOY VISWAM:

Will the Minister of External Affairs be pleased to state:

(a) the total number of vaccines already imported into India from foreign nations, country-wise;

(b) the details and the quantum of COVID-19 aid that has been received by India from foreign nations, country-wise;

(c) when did Government first made appeals for aid from the international community;

(d) whether the Ministry was aware that a second wave of COVID-19 was imminent and India would require medical aid from the international community; and

(e) at present what is India’s COVID-19 aid and vaccine foreign policy?

ANSWER

(a) India has imported 31.5 lakh units of Sputnik Component 1 and 4.5 lakh units of Sputnik Component 2 vaccine till date.

(b) to (e) During the unprecedented crisis of 2nd wave of Covid pandemic, International community came forward with offers of solidarity and assistance for specific medicines and equipment that were not immediately available in the country till such time our own domestic production improved. Foreign materials from 52 countries have been received till date including from Government to Government, Private to Government, Private to Private, Indian Community Associations and Companies. Donations were cleared through the Inter-Ministerial Committee that includes representatives of Ministry of Health, MEA, Niti Aayog, DPIIT, MHA, MoHFW, etc.
