DATA ON INDIAN CITIZENS DIED ABROAD DUE TO COVID-19

400. SHRI ABDUL WAHAB:

Will the Minister of External Affairs be pleased to state:-

(a) whether Government has any data about Indian citizens who died in foreign countries due to COVID-19;

(b) if so, the details of Indian citizens died abroad; and

(c) whether the Union Government has any plan to assist or help such families who have lost their breadwinners abroad?

(a) & (b) 3570 Indian citizens died abroad, due to Covid-19 as per information provided by our Missions/Posts abroad. Details, country-wise, may be seen at Annexure-I. Urdu.pdf

(c) We express deepest sympathy with the families of those who have died abroad due to Covid-19. Missions/Posts abroad maintained contact with the families and extended all possible help for transporting the mortal remains to India or for local burial, as per the wishes of the families. Financial assistance for transporting the mortal remains to India or for local burial was also provided from Indian Community Welfare Fund, where such requests were received by our Missions/Posts.
