Interactive session of Resident Commissioners and Nodal Officers of North-East States with Dr Rajkumar Ranjan Singh, Minister of State for External Affairs

An interaction of Resident Commissioners of North Eastern Region with Hon’ble MOS Dr Rajkumar Ranjan Singh was organised today 10 September at Jawahar Lal Nehru Bhawan by the States Division of MEA. The first of its kind meeting was held to understand first hand from the States in North East Region as to how MEA can facilitate their international engagement. This is especially significant in the context of realizing the vision of the Hon’ble Prime Minister, articulated during his address to the Nation on 6 August 2021.The meeting was attended by RCs and Nodal Officers from 8 North Eastern States comprising Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Tripura Nagaland and Sikkim.

In his welcome remarks Shri C.Rajasekhar, OSD(States) reiterated MEA’s focus on North Eastern Region as it holds the key to the security and prosperity of the nation. He recalled PM’s exhortation of the States to prepare Action plan to boost export in their respective states .

MOS Hon’ble Dr Rajkumar Ranjan Singh in his feature address urged the states in NE region to proactively harness the goodwill for India around the world in promoting export and attract foreign investment in to the Region so as to achieve the target of 400 Billion dollar export per annum.

Secretary(ER) Shri Dammu Ravi summed up the productive deliberations and guided the meeting on the next steps. These include a North East Round Table to be launched for the first time in Imphal, Manipur later this year. Senior officers from Government of India and MEA also enriched the session with their insightful contributions. The States Divison has been created specially at the behest of the Hon’ble Prime Minister so as to facilitate the international outreach efforts of all States and Union Territories.
