INDIANS REPATRIATED UNDER VANDE BHARAT MISSION
4973. SHRI RAJIV PRATAP RUDY:
Will the Minister of EXTERNAL AFFAIRS be pleased to state:
(a) whether many students go abroad to study different subjects and if so, the details thereof during each of the last five years and the current year, country- wise and State/UT- wise including Bihar;
(b) the number of students studying medicine and engineering abroad, country- wise, stream- wise; and
(c) the number of Indians repatriated from foreign countries under Vande Bharat Mission during the last five years and the current year, State/ UT- wise including Bihar?

(a) & (b) Sizeable number of Indian students go abroad for studies. As per the information received from Bureau of Immigration (BoI), the total number of students, including from Bihar who proceeded abroad for studies during the last five years are as follows:

Annexure-I.
(c) Vande Bharat Mission (VBM) was launched on 7 May 2020 to repatriate stranded and distressed Indian nationals in various parts of the world due to the COVID-19 pandemic. As on 21 March 2022, 3.09 crore passengers including from Bihar (in–bound and out– bound) have been facilitated in the flights operated under the VBM and Air Bubble Arrangements.
