PROMOTING PRODUCTS OF INDIA


3870. SHRI JAGDAMBIKA PAL:

Will the Minister of EXTERNAL AFFAIRS be pleased to state:-

(a) whether there are any plans of promoting special and unique products of India through the Indian Embassy in foreign countries and if so, the details thereof;

(b) whether there are any plans for promoting Geographical Indicators (GI) Registered products of India through the Indian Embassy in foreign countries and if so, the details thereof;

(c) whether the Government has any plans to employ the service of Indian Council for Cultural Relations for promoting GI products and other unique products of India and if so, the details thereof; and

(d) if not, the reasons therefor?

ANSWER
THE MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF EXTERNAL AFFAIRS

(a) & (b) Yes. MEA in association with TRIFED had organised the Tribes India Aadi Mahotsav event at Dilli Haat on Diplomats' day on 12 February 2021, which attracted large participation from the Foreign Missions in New Delhi. This event introduced the rich tribal heritage & unique products of India to international audience, in line with the Prime Minister's vision for ''Vocal for Local'' and ''Atma Nirbhar Bharat''.

A list of specially curated products for high level dignitary gifting, decorative objects/artefacts for display at chanceries/India House at Missions had been shared with Missions abroad. An e-brochure on the Geographical Indications of India prepared by India Brand Equity Foundation (IBEF) has also been shared with Indian Missions abroad.

(c) & (d) No. ICCR’s mandate is to develop cultural relations for creating mutual understanding with countries.
