(c) whether Government has received any response from that side; and

(d) if so, the details thereof?

ANSWER
THE MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF EXTERNAL AFFAIRS
[GEN. (DR) V.K. SINGH (RETD)]

(a) to (d) During his State visit to India from 18-24 February 2018, Prime Minister of Canada Justin Trudeau had participated in the Young Changemakers Conclave 2018, held in New Delhi on 24 February 2018. In that event, the backdrop of the stage during the address of Prime Minister Trudeau contained a map of India with inaccurate depiction of the territory of India.

The matter was immediately taken up with the High Commission of Canada in New Delhi and an explanation sought. In reply, the High Commission of Canada has conveyed that the Young Changemakers Conclave is an annual event, organized by a third party, and the map and backdrop were an artist’s rendering. Prime Minister Trudeau was one of the guest speakers at this event. The High Commission of Canada has underlined that the boundaries reflected on the map that was displayed in the background at the event do not imply endorsement or acceptance by the Government of Canada.
