Ministry of External Affairs Government of India

1. The meeting of IBSA (India, Brazil & South Africa) Sherpas’ was held on 6 August, 2020 through video conferencing.

2. Secretary (Economic Relations) in Ministry of External Affairs, Shri Rahul Chhabra led the Indian delegation. Mr. Dave Malcomson from Republic of South Africa, and Amb. Norberto Moretti, Sherpa of the Federative Republic of Brazil led respective delegations at the Meeting.

3. Sherpas reviewed the progress made under IBSA, since their last meeting. IBSA Sherpas also reviewed the functioning of the Joint Working Groups.

4. The Sherpas expressed their happiness on the progress being made in IBSA. The Sherpas also took note that due to ongoing COVID-19 pandemic a number of activities have been postponed including the regular meeting of IBSA Foreign Ministers on the margins of UN General Assembly.

5. The Sherpas looked forward to holding of the 7th IBSAMAR (Joint Naval Exercise) off the Coast of South Africa later this year.

6. IBSA Sherpas reiterated their appreciation for the work done by the IBSA Fund on Poverty and Hunger Alleviation that is spread over 31 projects in 20 countries. The IBSA Fund has won many accolades.

7. They also commended the IBSA Fellowship Programme at the RIS, launched at India’s initiative in 2017. They looked forward to the next round of IBSA Fellowship Programme.
