Visit of Secretary (CPV & OIA) for the First Consular Consultations between India and Tajikistan in Dushanbe (June 07, 2019)

  • In pursuance of a joint decision taken during the visit of Shri Narendra Modi, Hon’ble Prime Minister of India to Tajikistan in July, 2015 , the first Consular Consultations between India and Tajikistan were co-chaired by Shri Sanjiv Arora, Secretary [Consular, Passport & Visa and Overseas Indian Affairs], Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India and H.E. Mr. Zohir Ozod Saidzoda, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Tajikistan in Dushanbe on 7 June 2019. Secretary [CPV&OIA] was accompanied by Shri Somnath Ghosh, Ambassador of India to Tajikistan and other officials; the Tajik delegation also included a number of senior officials.
  • The highly friendly and constructive discussions covered a wide range of issues of mutual interest, aimed at further facilitating and promoting people to people contacts and exchanges in diverse spheres, including tourism, business, education, etc.
  • During his visit, Secretary [CPV&OIA] also addressed the Convocation Ceremony at the historic Avicenna Tajik State Medical University [ATSMU] and interacted with the Rector and other senior officials and faculty and Indian students; ATSMU has 1200 Indian students, 90 of whom obtained MBBS degree on this occasion. He also met with a broad-based gathering of the accomplished and highly regarded Indian community in Tajikistan at an event organized by the Embassy of India at Swami Vivekananda Cultural Centre [SVCC]; the programme included remarks by the Ambassador and Secretary [CPV&OIA], Q & A Session and a cultural performance by Tajik students learning music and dance at SVCC.
