Visit of President Elect of The 73rd United Nations General Assembly

Ms. Maria Fernanda Espinosa Garces, President-Elect of the 73rd Session of the United Nations General Assembly and former Minister of Foreign Affairs and Human Mobility of Ecuador, who is on a visit to India from August 10-14, 2018, met EAM today for delegation level talks.

EAM conveyed her congratulations to Ms. Garces on becoming the 4th woman President of the UNGA in its history and reiterated India's support to the President-Elect in carrying out her duties. EAM emphasized the need for UNSC reforms, especially continuation of the Inter Governmental Negotiations, as well as early finalization of the Comprehensive Convention on International Terrorism. EAM also highlighted India's commitments as part of the South-South Cooperation.

Ms. Garces outlined her priorities in the next one year as President of UNGA, especially revitalization of the United Nations, including the General Assembly as well as Security Council reforms.

During her 4 day visit to India, Ms. Garces visited Dilli Haat where she interacted with various NGOs involved in womens' development projects and Sustainable Development Goals. She inaugurated "Delhi Process-IV”, an event commemorating BAPA+40, organized by RIS at the India Habitat Centre, New Delhi. She also delivered a speech on the theme "Revitalization of the United Nations” at the Indian Council of World Affairs, Sapru House, New Delhi.
