MEA’s engagement with Northeast Media at Guwahati

July 17, 2018

As part of our enhanced public diplomacy outreach and our commitment to take the objectives of our foreign policy to the people at the grassroots, the External Publicity and Public Diplomacy Division of the Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) today organized the second event under an initiative titled ‘Videsh Aaya Pradesh ke Dwaar’ in Guwahati. This follows the launch of the initiative in Hyderabad in March 2018.

The initiative involves MEA’s engagement with regional media based in different cities across India who have carved their own space and have a unique and wide readership profile. Through our direct interaction with the local media, the Ministry desires to communicate our foreign priorities in simple terms, highlight the benefits accruing to the common people through our diplomatic efforts and bring the domain of foreign policy closer to the people. It also intends to create a pool of media professionals interested in foreign policy and guide them on connecting with MEA.

At the initiative in Guwahati, Shri Raveesh Kumar, Official Spokesperson and Joint Secretary (External Publicity) of the Ministry of External Affairs highlighted the objectives of the initiative and ways for local media to connect to MEA. To bring the topic of interest to the local media, Smt. Madhumita Hazarika Bhagat, Joint Secretary and National Coordinator (SCO) in MEA, gave a brief presentation on India’s multilateral diplomacy. A general presentation about the functioning of the MEA was also made.

The event was attended by around 50 Editors and representatives from the main media organization in North Eastern states of India representing Assamese, Bengali, Hindi and English languages.
