Year-long celebrations launched on 13 April 2017 to observe the 70th Anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations between India and Russia

  • Year-long celebrations were launched on 13 April 2017 to observe the 70th Anniversary of establishment of diplomatic relations between India and Russia at the Pravasi Bhartiya Kendra in New Delhi.
  • The launch function included lighting of the lamp, the inaugural address by President ICCR Prof. Lokesh Chandra, announcement of the winning entry for the ‘India-Russia at 70 Logo competition’, cultural programs (amongst them performances of Kathak, Bharatnatyam, Russian ballet, and yoga), the launch of a calendar of commemorative events, and release of a documentary on ‘India-Russia 70 years of diplomatic relations’. The event ended with a High Tea.
  • A large number of distinguished invitees attended the function. These included Chargé d’affaires of the Russian Federation Mr Anatoly Kargapolov, Director General ICCR Shri Amarendra Khatua, Joint Secretary (Eurasia) Shri G.V. Srinivas and Russians and Indians from all walks of life.
  • Both countries have decided to celebrate the 70th Anniversary in a befitting manner. Towards this end, a Roadmap of Events had been adopted in October 2016 at the 17th India-Russia Annual Summit in Goa. As part of the 70th Anniversary celebrations, more than a 100 events will span the year long celebrations and cover diverse areas of India - Russia bilateral collaboration.
