SAU commenced Doctoral courses from the fourth academic year 2013-14. It currently has seven Masters and Doctoral Courses in Sociology, Applied Mathematics, Biotechnology, Computer Science, Development Economics, Law and International Relations. It has 357(226 Male and 131 Female) students and 56 faculty members.

The above pie chart shows the number of students in SAU from different SAARC countries.With India having 207 students followed by Bangladesh with 52, Nepal with 34, Afghanistan with 25, Pakistan 16, Bhutan 11, Sri Lanka 09 and Maldives 02. There is also one student from Non SAARC nation in SAU.

The operational cost of running the University is met through assessed contributions from all SAARC Member States. India is committed to bearing the capital cost towards the establishment of the University. It is providing 100 acres of land at Maidan Garhi in New Delhi for construction of a permanent campus of the SAU.
