STUDENT KILLED IN AMERICA

†509. SHRIMATI RANJANBEN BHATT:

(a) whether killing of one Indian student has come to light in America;

(b) if so, whether any step has been taken by the Government in this regard; and

(c) if so, the details thereof and if not, the reasons therefor?

ANSWER
THE MINISTER OF STATE IN THE MINISTRY OF EXTERNAL AFFAIRS
[GEN. (DR) V. K. SINGH (RETD)]

(a) Yes.

(a) to (c) No. No incident of killing of an Indian student in the US has come to notice in recent months. However, an Indian student Shri Sai Kumar Adluru died in a road accident on 14 May 2017 in DeKalb, Illinois. He was a student of Northern Illinois University in DeKalb.

The Government, through Consulate General of India in Chicago, immediately reached out to the family of the victim and extended all possible support, including arranging the completion of the mortuary procedures and transportation of their mortal remains to India.

Safety and security of Indians abroad is top priority to the Government of India. Our Embassy and Consulates in the US are in constant touch with the US authorities and local Indian community groups to address any emergent issues pertinent to their welfare.
