Joint Media Statement on India- Mali Foreign Office Consultations

  • The 1st India-Mali Foreign Office Consultations were held in New Delhi on 4th November 2019. The Indian delegation was led by Shri T.S Tirumurti, Secretary (Economic Relations) and the Malian delegation was led by H. E. Mr. Boubacar Gouro Diall, Secretary General, Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation of Mali.
  • The consultations provided an opportunity to review the entire gamut of bilateral relations and to explore new areas for cooperation.
  • Both sides expressed satisfaction about the regular high level political exchanges, including the successful visits of Honourable President of Mali to India in March 2018 to attend the Founding Conference of International Solar Alliance and Honourable Vice President of India to Mali in September 2016.
  • The two sides reviewed entire gamut of bilateral issues including trade and commerce, development partnership [projects funded through India’s concessional lines of credit], capacity building training programmes, people to people linkages, defence cooperation and security related issues. The two sides agreed to identify capacity building training programmes related to security and counter terrorism which could be considered for G5 Sahel countries including Mali.
  • The two sides also exchanged views on regional and multilateral issues. An MoU on Mali’s Participation in the e-VBAB Network Project (Technology upgradation Pan African e-network Project (PAeNP)- Phase-I) was also signed.
  • India-Mali relations have traditionally been cordial and friendly. The bilateral relations have witnessed increased momentum in the recent years. Mali is one of the beneficiaries of the Duty Free Trade Preference Scheme enjoying zero duty on nearly 95% of its exports to India. The Government of India has extended Lines of Credit of total value US $ 353.6 million for various developmental projects including in power sector in Mali.
