Relation with India

About:

Brunei, officially the Nation of Brunei, the Abode of Peace is a sovereign state located on the north coast of the island of Borneo, in Southeast Asia. Apart from its coastline with the South China Sea, it is completely surrounded by the state of Sarawak, Malaysia, and it is separated into two parts by the Sarawak district of Limbang. It is the only sovereign state completely on the island of Borneo, with the remainder of the island belonging to Malaysia and Indonesia. Brunei’s population was 401,890 as of July 2011.

Brunei Darussalam’s vision is to promote the country as a unique tourist destination and gateway to tourism excellence in South East Asia. The objectives are to create international awareness of Brunei Darussalam as a holiday destination; to maximise earings of foreign exchange and make tourism as one of the main contributor to GDP. In addition, it will create employment opportunities.

The government is now actively promoting tourism as an important part of its economic diversification. It would like to see a target of 1 million-visitor arrival by the year 2000. From January to August 1999, the statistic recorded 405,532 visitors visited Brunei Darussalam. Public Holidays and Celebrations.

India’s Association:

  • India imports approximately B$ 600 million worth of crude oil from Brunei, supporting an economy that is heavily reliant on crude oil and natural gas exports.
  • Students and teachers from both India and Brunei visit each other regularly under an exchange programme led by EdCil.
  • The Brunei Investment Agency’s portfolio investment is worth US$ 500 million. It is planning a US$ 50 million consortium for infrastructure development with Infrastructure Development Finance Corporation.
